Welcome to North Devon Women’s Aid (NDWA) website.  Here you will find information about domestic abuse, what it is, what it means to families and how to get help.

NDWA is a registered charity and our free service covers Northern Devon i.e. North Devon and Torridge, similar support is offered in Exeter by Stop Abuse for Everyone (SAFE) and in South Devon by Domestic Violence and Abuse Services.

ANYONE can experience domestic abuse - it can occur regardless of ethnicity, religion, class, gender, age, sexuality, disability or lifestyle. It can also occur in a range of relationships including heterosexual, gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender. NDWA supports all sections of our community with a range of services for women, men and children and young people.

Any violent, abusive or controlling behaviour by someone close to you - usually a partner or an ex-partner or a family member – is domestic violence and abuse. The abuse can be physical, emotional, sexual or financial. It can include bullying, threats, humiliation and isolation – you can experience domestic abuse without having broken bones or bruises.

All children and young people living with domestic violence and abuse are also at risk of emotional harm and in some cases may be directly abused as well.
